Cool the Schools Facilities Improvement Referendum

In Sayreville, ensuring the safety, security, and comfortability of the environments that our students and staff learn and work in is the highest priority of the Board of Education and Administration. However, the average age of our school buildings  is approximately 60. Furthermore, due to being underfunded by the state of New Jersey and the very lean budgets over the past two decades, the facilities in the district are in desperate need of renovation and refurbishment. In fact, although the school district has made major strides in improving its facilities through recent budgets, Elementary and Secondary Education Relief (ESSER/CARES) Grants, and our very successful Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP), which included a Solar Power Purchase Agreement, there is still much more work to be done, which is why the Sayreville Board of Education recently agreed to pay its architect of record to begin the process of preparing a facilities improvement bond referendum vote, which is scheduled for October 6, 2022, in order to make the desperately needed improvements to the working and learning environments of its students and staff.

Essentially, projects will be for the purpose of substantially upgrading all school buildings, particularly the electrical grid infrastructures, windows, doors, roofs, and the installation of central air conditioning in every space within every school, especially on second floors. In addition, plans include the renovation of the Selover School, which this fall will become the school district's second preschool building, so that it can meet all school building code requirements for a preschool, and so that we can construct a secure retention vestibule in it.

 Thus, we will soon be mobilizing our special Blue Ribbon Committee for the purpose of introducing and gaining community support for the facilities improvement referendum. In addition, from now until October 6, 2022, we will be making presentations on the referendum to faculty, staff, and parents.
